PROJECT RUNWAY SEASON PREMIER
Ahh, so the madness has begun! I have to admit, my excitement dwindled a little bit as the episode played out. I think its going to take me a bit longer to feel this season out. I’m hoping I don’t get bored along the way. Anyway, it started off with all the introductions of course and then moved on to challenge numero uno!
Challenge #1 design an outfit out of products from a grocery (type) store.
Designers: Blayne, Daniel, Emily, Jennifer, Jerell, Jerry, Joe, Keith, Kelli, Kenley, Korto, Leanne, Stella, Suede, Terri, Wesley.
So, all went mad running about the store looking for the items of choice. I saw plenty of table cloths and fabric type items chosen. Jerry chose a shower curtain which.. well. Uh Oh, bad choice people, they should understand by now that creativity is the key here. Going for items that make your job easier is only going to make the judges cringe. Case in point, Tim’s words to all “you look like a bunch of slackers.” Enough said. Aside from that little faux-pas some did purchase unusual items, there were mop heads, and coffee filters, garbage bags, candy and even tomatoes. Brownie points for that! Unfortunately though, you would think with all the random stuff there would be more creativity, there wasn’t. It was lacking for me, there are a few looks overall that stood out but all in all, it’s was a bit of a bore.
My top 3 outfits were:
Jennifer’s Paper Towel Dress
I think it’s cute; simple. I believe Jennifer made good use of an unusual item. In just looking at the overall design it doesn’t look anything like paper towels but it just goes to show you how creativity can make anything look chic.
Daniel’s Blue Plastic Cup Dress
I think this dress should have won, not to take anything away from the winner, but to me this was the most ingenious idea. Daniel had to iron out the plastic cups to make them “mold-able” and in doing so this is what came of it! Isn’t it great? I believe that is what the challenge was all about, taking something that isn’t the norm and making it work. A+ on this one.
and Joe’s spaghetti and oven mitt dress
Another wise look here. Joe took an oven mitt and cut it open to make the top and the skirt is made of spaghetti haha I love the pattern and seeing it come down the runway it had a certain “cuteness” factor but it also had movement and flow. It wasn’t stiff or boring. I think this was just cute. Great idea.
The winner of the challenge can be found HERE. I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t watched. The loser can be found HERE, YIKES even the photo looks bad!
I believe the worst of the bunch got voted off. From what we saw of their previous work, there was some awesome stuff they made but in tonights episode, that outfit was just not working in anyway shape of form. Over all it wasn’t the most exciting opener. I’ve seen better but as with anything we got to give it some time. It doesn’t seem like there will be too much drama this year. Everyone seems to be a bit more on the mature side and seems to have a real focus. But it’s still early, there’s plenty of time for all that extra juicy drama haha. Next week should be interesting the designers have to “think green.” The awesome Natalie Portman will be guest judge. I’m excited to see what happens.

Babe I miss you….. I suck at updating mu blog, I have so much shit to happening in my life…..
I hope you’re doing great! Just know I haven’t forgotten about you
I love Project Runway too! I rarely get to watch except in the summer because they don’t have Bravo in my dorm.
I really liked the paper towel dress too and I agree, the blue cup one should have won - it was so innovative and unusual while everyone else played it safe.
